Black Spark Plug

Hello Peeps,

I've had a few issues with my 43F!

It's a bitch to start when it's hot. Checked the spark plug and its covered in black soot so it's running rich which could be the cause of the no hot start. I've checked out the choke plunger to see if its leaking but it seems to be in good nick. I'm ...

Re: Lead Replacement Fuel Additive

Thanks Andy for your response. I guess I'll put the best fuel in that I can for this trip.

The knocking sounds like a top end thing but I'll check all the bolts and fluids etc before I head off.

Thanks again,

Simon.

Re: Lead Replacement Fuel Additive

The reason I was asking is because when I run the bike at around 70 on a dual carriageway, it starts knocking quite heavily when I release the throttle. Never had this on a bike before and I'm thinking this might be pinking.

Off to Portugal on Sunday so I'm hoping the bike makes it around!

Thanks ...

Lead Replacement Fuel Additive

Hi Yall,

Does anybody know if you need to use a lead replacement fuel additive on a 1986 43F?

Thanks.

43F Carb Pipes

Hello all,

When I stripped my bike down, I was very diligent in marking up where things when, taking loads of photo's etc, but it appears I may have missed something!

There are 2 pipe outlets from the carb that I dont seem to have pipes for. I've either lost them or the dog has eaten them! Can ...

Best Rebuild Order

Posted this on the XT600 section but probably best placed here:

Happy New Year to everyone reading :)

I'm finally in the process of rebuilding my XT600 after stripping it down about a year. I've had the frame powder coated and I'm cleaning everything up ready to go back together.

I'd really like ...

Re: Gearbox pitting advice

There is some mathematical logic you could apply:

If the cost of the part is less than you'd earn in the time it takes you to repair after not replacing the part, the part cost is the cheapest option.

Also, peace of mind and confidence in the mechanical integrity of the bike is priceless.

Hope ...
