Thank you, yes the movement you describe is what I am seeing. I have maybe 3mm or 4mm at the basket outer edge. There is a bronze plain bearing pushed into the inner gear. The fit to the gearbox input shaft is fine but the outer surface of the plain bearing to the basket is terrible.

Is it possible from the Frame Number work out the year of manufacture? I have a 1VJ on a UK "G" Reg (late 1989 early 1990) It is an import I assume as it has a kmh speedo. Yambits sell two tacho cables, 1983-86 and 87 to 91. My assumption would be get the 87-91 but would like to be sure!
