After a bit of a cockup my gearbox parts are being collected from the US by a friend and should be with me by next weekend!

Well I asked Geoff via PM and he said use 3AJ ones!
Maybe he was having bad day or just sick of newbies bothering him with the same stupid questions.

So, I have ordered both, 3AJ and whatever the 1990 ones are.

I'm pretty sure later gears are the same anyway just different part numbers iirc.

To be honest I've read so much over the last month it makes my head spin!

What bits do I order for this engine?
It's a 3AJ/2KF top end and it's got 3AJ stamped on the crankcase and oil pump but 2VJ on the left case and conrod?

Is it an 88 or 90 or something else!

Counter and main/pinion fifth gears are knackered.
Counter third has one damaged side, third main/pinion is fine.
Main/pinion fourth has two sides damaged ...

Yes I've read that but forgot. I've been doing a lot of reading lately and some of it gets lost!

My balancer gear has a tooth missing. Is that normal?
Anyway, I've just ordered a second hand one from the bay for £20, as they are £50+ for a new one even from US.

Cases will not separate. It seems the crank has welded itself onto the bloody bearing.
Any tips?
I guess I'll need to remove the flywheel and remove it that way?

(I've searched but couldn't find anything.)

It's ok. Luckily I have people that regularly travel to the US and they can bring back stuff.

How come the bits are cheaper in the US?
£70 as supposed to £120 in UK.

As some of you predicted this is turning into an epic rebuild.
I had a proper look at fifth gear and the facings are pitted and damaged. So engine will be need to be stripped.

Is there a good supplier if 5th gears?
