Carb - Model year Parts Compatibility

Post by pfbiker65 »

Hi, new here and looking for some advise. I have a 99 XTZ660 Australian version twin headlight and was wondering if there are is any variation in the carbs and carb parts, or compatibility between this model and earlier models, say back to the 1996 or earlier year model. Just finding that many suppliers don't list specific parts or kits for the 1999 year model as they seem to mostly list up to 1996 and then jump to 2000+ models. I am after parts such as carb rebuild kits, inlet manifolds(i think i have found), brake master/slave cylinder kits etc. I have found a similar issue with my 1998 ttR600 Belgarda. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I doubt they’d use a carb for just one year, at least the body, although jets usually change.
Yamaha don’t really do rebuild kits but you can normally get all the jets, seals and springs you need through their supply chain.
Got a manual with any specs?

Post a photo of your carbs here?
The earlier XTZ660 carbs that I've seen look identical to the earlier YDIS XT600 ones.
They'll have different size jets though, probably.

Thanks guys,

They do appear similar to my other Yamaha 600cc carbs.

Will have to learn how to upload images.

Check out the Mikunioz setup or the Raptor 660 carbs if they fit.
Both a better option than trying to get YDIS to run properly, which IIRC was a bit hit and miss on my 2 year old XT600.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I have fully stripped and cleaned the carbs and they don't appear to have any wear that would be out of spec. I will be replacing seals, o rings, needle and seat, drain screw and air mixture screw. Will check all adjustment is in spec and reassemble.

One other question is - how important is all the vacuum hosing on the carbs. Can any be eliminated from the set up.

Thanks

All do a job.
Supply to float bowl,
Breathers/ drains/ overflow.
Bowl to r/h carb
R/h carb vacuum to cruise enrichment device on left carb.
The hoses are a bit expensive for what they are, but I had to use genuine as I couldn’t get generic lines locally that would fit.
