Great work on getting the lathe. Once you get the hang of it you will be knocking out all sorts of knick knacks.

Although, I do hope you don't take the "Genuine Hickory" to ALL your projects!!

There is no doubt that at some stage in every project, belting the living shit out of something with a ball peen hammer is both necessary and cathartic.

Your going to need a 360° index table to make mill them slots in, like this one a guy has on his "mini me"

But yeah not hard to make at all Danny.

i bought a spare motor off mez some time back, knowing it had water in it mez suggested i pull it apart asap well today was asap so here it is

Image
opened it up :bigeek:
Image
looks like it's had mud/dirt in it
Image
no scoring on the bore
Image
piston in good condition
Image
Image
mmmm goo :eekers:
Image
Image
so i'm at it again with the cheap puller i couldn't believe it 3 good firm hits and it pops off :dunno:
Image
unfortunately it's not the flywheel i need :foot_tap:
Image
overall there's plenty of good parts and i've got a ready supply of bolts ect for the tenere motor
(which i bought in pieces}

i've been getting stuck into degreasing all the engine bits and pieces getting it all ready for the assemble stage and spotted a problem with the stock piston in the xt600e engine, 4pt and 3tb i think? not sure of exact engine designations

Image
Image
Image
both the 600e engine pistons have cracks around the skirt :eekers: the cracks are only on one side unfortunately don't know if its back or front???
the earlier (2KF i think?) kick start engine has a much sturdier piston
Image
side by side :sherlock:
Image
fortunately the after market piston has been strengthened in this area
