XT600Z 39F

Post by blackshark »

Howdy Tenere fanatics,
Today I had a look at what I thought was a 39E for sale, turns out to be a 39F, what is it, does anyone know about 39F models?
the frame number is 39F-000140,
engine number 39F000110, different to the frame, however I did a registration check on the bike and Vicroads believe the engine has the same number as the frame, I think someone miss read it at original rego time.
there is no vin/compliance plate on the steerer tube or evidence there was ever one there, my guess is this bike was a grey import and there will be some sort of compliance plate on the frame under the seat.
It had been registered as a 1988 model.
All the stickers on it were in Japanese, including the fork sticker, just like the reproductions available on fleabay, unlike the 39E fork stickers that didn't have Japanese on.
The speedo also had Japanese on its face as well as an oil light, which 39E didn't. I don't know if there was an oil switch on the bike.
The pack rack had the extra bracing unlike the very early models.
Where these bikes made after 34L/39E/55W had finished their production run?

Even the master cylinder cap was in Japanese, however the 39E version reads Dot 3 rather than Dot 3 or 4

Hello, I feel called :shades: smile: . Is the 34L Japanese is lower (suspensions and saddles) and has no passenger brackets and like the 39E the additional lock at the steering besides other small differences. Sold in very few specimens,there is no match between frame and engine number. I think it was produced after 1984 but I do not believe in 1988 (little sold, left in dealership). Where did you find it? smile:

Hi Madmax,
I found the bike in rural Victoria, Australia. It had been advertised on Gumtree, the owner said he bought it from a lawn mower/small motor repair shop, he had never registered it and had no papers for it. :tenere:
I kinda kicked myself for not buying it, it was only $2000 and I had the money in my pocket, the non matching numbers and the lack of compliance plate was why I didn't buy it.
I did take it for a ride and the suspension was very soft (I'm also fat).
I hadn't noticed the lack of passenger brackets, but having a google search I found another as you describe, a while back I found one for sale in Europe with the same speedo with Japanese writing and the oil light.
the bike did look a little small, your comment on the suspension may put reason to that.

Since in our Tenerè does not exist, I asked a friendly girl to translate the tank sticker. Practically:
* Wear your helmet
* Respect the allowed speed
* The silencer becomes hot and then stops in places where it does not come into contact with other people.
* Perform scheduled maintenance. Maintenance points are 8, brakes, tires, oil, all types of lights (all lights), horn, measuring instruments. More in detail the various points are listed in the instruction booklet. In case of absence, ask the store.
