Oil filter bottom thread damaged

Hello,

this weekend I decided to do an oil change on my xt660r. Everything was going well, until I was tightening the oil filter bolts and the bottom bolt damaged the thread. Now the bolt won't screw in tightly, I tried rethreading a bit, but I am scared that the metal bits in there will get into the motor, as that bottom thread hole is somehow connected with the oil pipeline (the oil goes from the oil filter into the hole at the bottom and passes the thread). Maybe somebody could offer me some advice? Could small thread shavings there damage my engine, or will it be picked up by the oil filter?

I’d probably drain the oil, and take the side cover off and do the work then. It won’t take too long. If it goes into the engine casing (think it does) just the usual 8mm or so, I’d use a timesert insert instead of a helix oil, you’ll never look back once you use them, flush everything out, re-seal the clutch cover with loctite crankcase sealant (5220?) and refill with fresh oil. Use very little torque on any screws or bolts into the engine ally. It’ll be right as rain. Do any others you have doubts about too, the ones that give you the weird feeling when tightening that they’re on their last legs.
