Brake pads

Post by donnybach »

Any opinions on best brake pads for 1vj front? I normally go for EBC HH on sports bikes. Although it passed mot, the front brake just seems a bit wooden. I’ve heard galfer are pretty good too. I rebuilt the caliper last year, and will probably do the master, but not until I change the pads first.

Here in the states my options are pretty limited. There's an aftermarket option called EMGO that I can buy within the country but other than that it's EBC on UK ebay or one OEM Yamaha option in Cyprus. Online OEM retailers could probably special order the OEM pads but that might takes weeks to arrive.

Depending on the wear and tear on your brake system I think you'll notice a bigger difference when you rebuild your master cylinder compared to changing pad brands. I'd also recommend swapping over to steel braided brake lines. The old brake lines are prone to swelling.

Yeah thanks, I have braided lines but I reckon you’re right about rebuilding the master. 👍

Ive had good results with galfer pads on my 3aj, same front brake as yours I think.

I use the galfer semi metallic g1054 ones. Seem to bite as well as youre going to get with these brakes and arent too harsh on the disks like ive had with the EBC HH sintered pads on other bikes.

Hope thats of some help.

Thanks. I’ve heard about galfer with the American t7 lads and they sound quality. Never heard of them here but I think they are available now. I deglazed my pads the other day and they improved a bit but I’ll look for the galfers. 👍
