Didn't Actionman make a little jig to align the crank half's? i tried looking for it but no luck.
Mezo.
I think it was Dan who made the jig (justdan)

Really strange that 3rd gear is pitted and not 5th.... how many miles has the bike done?
If most of the copper coating is still in the small end, I would keep the conrod... if you decide to change it (you'll need a 3TB conrod and gudgeon pin) I would buy all the parts required and ship the lot off to Dave Lambeth.... it will come back perfect.... better than new, give him a ring he may be able to help with the big end bearing.

Hi Geoff,
I think I even messaged you on Facebook when searching for a Tenere a few months back
According to the odometer the bike has done around 70k Km's. Lock washers told me that the case has been halved before and who knows, maybe something has been changed already, the fifth is looking pretty great actually. I'm hoping to score a used 3TB gearbox locally to get a peace of mind on the gears.
I'm also hesitant about changing the conrod, the wear is only on one side and on the bottom, It feels like hasn't maybe gotten enough oiling. Hopefully the 3AJ oil pump can help in that matter. I'm more worried about the bore size as I wouldn't like to buy another head or sleeve + Piston kit.
Wouldn't really care too much aboout changing the main bearing, but as my Freewind shat the bearing separators into the crankcase this summer at about 120KMh and 2500KM's from home, it seems like a feasible thing to do. Heard great words about DL, but I have a feeling that shipping from Estonia to UK + the work will cost me a bunch.
Thanks for the help so far!

I think you'll find that Dave Lambeth will only do full rebuilds now.

I have always wondered why David doesn't train & employ a handful of local lackeys to help him? rather than trying to do everything himself? are you reading this DL?

Meanwhile i opened up the oil filter in the crankcase and around 34 years worth of shit saw daylight.
Viewer discretion is advised:

Another day of odd findings with my 1VJ..
After getting the engine cases back from my friend who put them in a detail washer, a lot of black stuff started flaking, both outside and inside. Not sure if it's just years of abuse that has manifested everywhere or if someone really managed to spray some paint inside? Afterall the flaking was similiar in and on the cylinder/head.
Also one of the intake valves and the intake port was extremely dirty. This is the one belonging to the secondary carb. What's your guess, is the secondary carb just running very rich?
Exhaust valves were also definately not airtight.

The paint is factory, i would now go & get it properly cleaned (vapour blasted) as those paint flakes will clog your oil strainer filter.
