Thanks everyone for your answers, I drove the bike a few times more and figured it out. All it needed was a tiny tiny bit of gas when really hot and it starts right away.

I find with carbs on bikes and old wagons, that once you’ve changed anything, the starting process always changes slightly too. Always a learning curve.
