All he told me was that the spoke angles were slightly different (on a XT) don't know more then that, must be slight as he said you only find out when you are nearly finished then you have to start again the right way around.

i couldn't adjust the hump out of the rims, so i improved my setup a bit, knocked up a adjustable arm to mount the
dial indicator, i was getting 11mm rise where the rim is welded together, so i started again by loosening all the spokes and getting the run out correct first then i will finish off truing side to side

so i persisted last night and end up with 0.5mm runout with about 3-4mm rise in the weld area on both the front and rear

So would that be that noticeable then Dan? or would the give in the tire absorb that?

well i've done it again


i was looking for good front fairings and found this transalp locally, everything seems to be there the panels and fairings are in good condition, motor has been removed had blown the head gasket from a lack of coolant/corrosion inhibitor, overall condition of switchgear ect is very good - more pics

seat is spot on


side fairings are in very good shape a crack or 2 but very repairable


no bodgey repairs

motor was running well except for blown head gasket

heads have been done with new valve stem seals and valves relapped


full gasket set and new rings


factory tail light and rear rack

switch gear

spare front guard and bars


so now's where it gets good, i was telling andrew about doing a africa twin/dakar bike color scheme
and he points me to these sitting in his shed

headlight and front fairings

head light and dash mount

lights

africa twin seat, rack and aluminum bash plate


well all that lot caught me off guard and i thought fuck it you only live once so i took the lot
it' now 1am i'll update mid next week should have enough parts now to get alp no.1
on the road very soon

i'm thinking TA1 gets the africa twin treatment, it is missing a few bits which can now be replaced with the Africa stuff and it won't be stock standard there will be a few mods here and there to get the EL CHARRO look i'm after



and TA2 is really in good condition i'm thinking build it into a stock trasalp
