these rims are the off road ones, will have better rims built up latter for the road.

This weekend the motor should come together and painted through
the week, I'll use vht barrel paint has a good reputation fingers crossed.
then new chain oil and filter and see what happens when i kick it!

Did you have to do some valve work , or just a good cleaning and lapping of the seats? I used VHT on my XL jug & head plus several exhausts, it holds up good ,don't know about years down the road yet. I even clear coated over the top to get the right shine and so far so good.

is that the normal front brake line hose routing on the XT/TT's over there? All of mine are clamped on the back side of the fork and the hose stays behind it all the way up into the tripletree.

hey xtrider yes the valves were recut and head cleaned and the valve
tips linished and new seals fitted. basic service i guess i picked the best head i had
out of four.

the vht paint seems the good stuff, i found the price very steep
3 cans cost me 59 bucks. better work good.

the front brake line is the correct routing far as i can tell,
you got a pic of your routing? looking on the internet has it up the front

All 5 of my XT's have the same bracket and routing, strange for Yamaha to change that.





notice the yellow balancing dot on the tire in the wrong spot? I found out after installed it was to go by the valve stem for balance, oops, she shook a bit at speed but put in 3oz. balancing beads and smooth now.

I never noticed the cable routing before, strange my pe has it at the front and all suzuki rm's have it at the front weird.

What's this balancing dot thingy? for road tyres only?

Well what a long day, got my brothers car out the way first, service items.
then engine time,

this is where i was up to
gear set, crank, shift drum, and balance shaft in place

This stuff here is very important loctite 518
it stays wet until two mating surfaces come together,
perfect for this application, no strands of sealant ect.

Now i was on a roll so didn't get a lot of pics

picked all the best parts out of 3 motors
took some remembering witch pile of parts to use
loctite on all important threads.

genuine base and head gaskets and piston in place then took off to fit rings was easer

don't now why but this pic is crap, barrel on,
pain in the butt to get the piston in the barrel, next time will go down the top with ring compressor
then fit piston to rod, if there's a next time!

and this with the head on, also a good idea to use anti seize on threads that a
prone to seizing, head bolts ect.

And the finished article, valves adjusted seals fitted, also emery clothed all seal surfaces
Took me about 7 hours to assemble the motor.

And the motor riding shotgun.

When i got home i washed the motor down with wax and grease remover then
plugged all important holes then hit it with the vht barrel paint


and that's where i am up to.
tomorrow will paint the exhaust system then come monday
motor goes back in the frame.
All that's left to buy now is a chain, oil and filter
can't wait!
And i know how mezo likes the barrel fins polished but i'm going
for durability.... i can't be bothered.

just remembered i weighed the motor, it's 40kg on the dot, fat turd.

Its the small details that make all the difference, bit like a pinstripe on a newly painted car.

And i was wondering how much the motor weighed complete.
