Yep it does take patience & lots of time, if your going to refurbish all the parts yourself like we have.

That was one of my mistakes Geoff was not plating them bits like you did, it wasn't until i moved to the humidity of the east coast that i noticed bits starting to rust, over in WA its a dry climate & things generally don't go rusty, not the case in sub tropical Queensland.

Years ago (1986) I had an XT600 which I used for long distance trialling, I had a spare set of wheels fitted with trials tyres so I could swap 'em over easily when I had a trial on..... when I sold the bike I kept the wheels..... still got 'em...




So I nicked the rear sprocket off the spare wheel & fitted it on Snow White.... after the obligitary gold paint of course.....
So little bit of history on me bike.....




Then the caliper discussion started, first I painted 'em silver, didn't like that so painted 'em black...



Didn't like that so, stripped them back down (again) & painted them gold...










Sexy reservoir fitted....

These pictures are beautiful Geoff... I really need to find someone near me who does plating. I also need to find the Jedi-like patience (and time) to spend 3 hours cleaning very small things...

Its the plating & stuff that makes all the difference.... I had / have the same problem as Mezo, once your frame has been powder coated, you have to paint, polish, plate OR buy new stuff to fit back on.... or it looks crap... then of course it starts to cost... more & more & more & more
