Possible it may have been previously placed on the other side of the circlip on the trans output shaft to take up excessive shaft horizontal play. I have a 3TB that has approx 1.5mm play if you push/ pull on the trans output shaft which is excessive compared to other XT engines I have which have zero/ .5mm max play. One of these washers would bring it back to where it should be. Perhaps just install trans shaft assemblies into crankcase and button it up and check the output shaft horizontal play first before doing full assembly?
This 3aj was outfitted with a kickstarter so it’s possible that this could have come from that part of the engine. I have seen that last washer sorta oil glued to the case after it has been stripped so I’ll check to make sure that’s present in my parts bins. Other than that, yes i think you may be right about this washer being stacked on at the end after the circlip. I have a very vague recollection about that during the last engine split. Thank you for checking those dimensions. Where did you get that very valuable information?

So I had to buy another set of case halves after I discovered some damage to the 1VJ set I bought a while back, and after paying $200 and waiting 1.5 months for a shipment to arrive from Hamburg, this is what I get :omg:

The volks in Hamburg packed this thing for a summer vacation at the beach and the post office gave it an ass kicking like I haven't seen in years. I got royally fucked on this one. Not even sure welding the missing threads will ever seal this case back up... I'm so pissed right now. Will see what the ebay fuckers will say about it. Fuck.

I would be fucking gutted if that happened to me, feel sorry for you Scottie.

How did you pay for it? Paypal hopefully? i think you're covered by credit card as well?

One thing is for sure it was not packaged properly so its the sellers fault for sure, where`s the foam? bubble wrap? even newspaper, nothing zilch, that is piss poor.

Mezo.

Wow....looks like true lack of care by both the seller/ packer and the transport company. Hopefully a number of avenues to go down to get your money back but after waiting for so long to get the cases thats the last thing you would want to have to do. Makes me angry just looking at it!

At least the purchase was made through ebay so that offers a lot of options for resolution. The seller has already refunded the purchases and shipping costs but I really don't want to eat the cost of mailing it back to Germany. Plus I still need a set of case halves, damnit!

Anybody got a pair they are willing to part with? :bouncing-boobs:

Why would you have to? its scrap.

Have they insisted you ship it back then? all they are going to do with it is chuck it in the bin.

Mezo.

They have not... I will wait. Maybe send back some rotten eggs if they eventually ask for it.

Jeez... that's shit, I'd have been gutted.

I bagged a pair on eBay a while back for 30 quid, I'll be fitting them to Tenere 2 very soon.

I do have a spare left side case and the right one which will come off Ten 2... you're welcome to them, but obviously not a matched pair.

I was gonna try putting it together with my spare left side one until I saw the pair on eBay

Painful on so many levels, feel for ya. That is the most piss-poor packing job i've ever seen.
