yeh you'd be surprised how often it happens
i got my stuff back from the sand blasters painted up the pipes but i couldn't fit them until i sorted out these big welds

even the pipe ID is about 5mm too small causing a step from the exhaust port into the pipes

so got the die grinder out and cleaned it up and enlarged it for a smooth flow

all fitted up

I went to a mate's place during the week to drop off a big bore kit for the mighty Yello Peril (which was originally a Honda CB125). He had a magnificent resto of a Transalp under way. I fell in love with the thing.I'll take my camera when I pick up my machined parts and see if I can get some pix.

oh yes should have mentioned both pipes had this huge weld inside
had a good day in the shed, started by cleaning all the nuts bolts and washers using the wire wheel on the bench grinder

all clean and ready for paint

i gave em 2 coats of flat black, it's becoming a bit of a theme with this bike

it's all coming together now, getting that bloody air box back in the frame is a pain, it's like a f#*king Rubik's cube, turn it side ways then rotate vertical then 1/4 turn to the left

, got it bolted in and then had to unbolt it and drop it down to get the wiring harness in the right spot

i had to do a repair job on the right side footpeg bracket, it's made from thick steel so had to take it to the suspension shop where i use to work and use the big 100 tonne press to get it straight again

got the radiators and all the hoses fitted and filled with nice rain water

all that water cooling stuff makes it look messy, i do like the look of an air cooled bike much cleaner

had the alp running but only running on 1 cylinder no.2
checked spark nice big blue spark, swapped the cdi's over no change, pulled the carbs off can't find any blockages, then sprayed a little start ya bastard down the inlet ports, no.2 cylinder fires, no.1 blows flames back out the inlet
so

is going on here????????
when i first got it going i rode it and both fired and it went well

stuck valve?
????
any idea's where to look next

Double check spark plug wires and wires to coils. Nothing accidently swapped?
Do a compression check on both cyls and compare.
If the bad one is low on comp, then remove one or more rocker covers and observe valve movement while turning the engine.
Stuck inlet is a strong possibility.

progress report
checked the timing on both cylinders looks ok
checked the inlet valve clearances they were a bit on the tight side at 3thou" reset to 6thou"
as were the exhaust at 3thou" reset at 8thou"
i hope that was the problem
i'll do a compression test tomorrow and hope all is ok
if the head has to come off to look into it further the motor has to come out of the frame
well if it ends up with the motor out, the frame will be sand blasted and powder coated
and scope creep will win again
