Well, got it registered this week (club reg of course) and took it for a shake down ride today. About 150k's east of Melb. Had a few problems with fuel starving, maybe intermittent blockage somewhere.? The oil burning however was pretty bad. You may recall when I did the motor I honed bore and replaced rings. After I had done about 100k the blue smoke subsided and thought it had bedded in a little, however when I stopped at some lights I heard a bit of a "pre seizure" squeal from below. Pulled over and checked the oil (none visible on the stick!!) some fumes emmiting from the oil tank. Approx 1lt per 100km! So I put a litre of oil in and rode home (blue smoke had returned) Seems like I will need to a rebore aferall. I have a piston kit so it will be my next job.

Was the bore ever measured to see if it wasn't worn too big before even honing? Sometimes it works to get +.01" (commonly called service rings) and just gap them for the bore and run in the worn std bore as long as there is no piston slap going on.

Yes, put in oversize rings and filed them down to get the gap correct. Doesn't appear to have worked on this occasion.

That's actually odd then that they didn't seal yet no slapping, usually it works at least for a good number of miles, those that didn't the bore was so big that the skirts would break from tipping. Are you sure a valve seal isn't leaking or, errr, ummmm, ,, .................................................... not istalled?

Looks great Burnie Did ya put any air in the forks,they look a bit saggy (12psi with a bicycle pump)gives them a lift.Ya better give Actionman a prod so he starts restoring some of his herd
