ok a little premature with celebrations it seems i also have the dredded CDI problem, it fires randomly, but now with the wire fixed it behaves as stated in the threads i have read, the tacho dosn't work when the CDI's are swapped, so new CDI's will be ordered, for now i'm trying the home repair by resoldering the circuit board in the cdi, works for some people, one bloke soldered the circuit board then hard wired the CDI's to the harness , no further problems for him so far

Look for cracked or dry joints Danny, just touch your iron on them & the existing solder will join again.

I would recommend also adding some fresh flux cored solder or else you wont get a nice "wet" joint.

Yep they work very well "solder suckers" they also work well on spots/zits blackheads etc.

went a bit crazy and bulked up the solder but fuck me it works
firing on both cylinders and tacho works with CDI's in any position, now I've got to seal the circuit board with some resin or something any idea's??

Try using the stuff you get out of the industrial sized sucker!

well i end up using some araldite, should be protected now

the location of the CDI's in the early models are verticle and the seat pushes down on the plugs and causes problems

in the later models they mounted them sideways, so i copied the setup

some progress was happening

i got to the point of starting it up and had some success, but was misfiring a bit and seemed really rich, i adjusted the carbs tried everything still no joy so left it for the night, next day went to see if it would start and it wouldn't turn over
so i pulled the spark plugs and found no.1 full of fuel so pulled the carbs off again, and found the float stuck got on the net found how to set the float level properly, went through both carbs again.
refitted carbs went through the final checks, water yes ,oil?? whole sump full of fuel so i had a stuck float and my fuel tap dosn't stop the fuel in the off position, and i had put 5lt of premium fuel in which is now mostly mixed with oil
so i've drained the motor oil/fuel out took off the oil filter and left the sump bung and oil filler plug out hoping all the petrol will evaporate, is there anything else i should do? i'm thinking fill it with cheap oil get it hot and drop it out? thats if it runs don't want to get ahead of myself i seem to be taking 1 step forward 2 steps back at the moment
