After getting the Tenere's out and enjoying my trip around Wales I've been motivated to get back on the White resto mod.
As those of you who've followed this will know it came to me as a collection of broken incomplete bits so I wasn't too fussed about building it into some sort of improved hybrid, hence the front suspension.
I wanted to update the electrics as the loom was nothing special and had been butchered in places, so I ditched it in favour of the Motogadget set up. I wanted a minimal MX look on the front end which made me go down the electrics through the bars route.
So after much messing about and drilling and threading wires here we have the result...



and on the other side.



I'm made up with it.
The colours are left side from top, yellow for indicator, blue for horn and red for lights.
On the right side from top, yellow for indicator, red for start.
The Motogadget is really intelligent and you can program the buttons to do different things for the duration of the push on the switch, for instance one tap switches the lights on, a double tap switches from dipped to main beam. You can also set at time for the indicators to turn off or just flash a preset number of times depending on button push.
All of the buttons then connect to a two wire CANBUS system which goes back towards the main unit.

Once I get time to clear the garage a bit, I'll finish the electrics and get the front end finished.
It also needs a set of carbs putting back on as I removed them when I was having carb issues on the blue 1VJ.
So not a million miles away....

As I was in the garage today and had the sump guard vapour blasted a few weeks ago I thought it might as well go back on the bike.
I'm terrible for getting sub assemblies finished and then storing them somewhere safe, and forget what I've done with them



I bought another sump guard earlier this week, you can just make it out in the photo.
The plan is to try and make a passible replica of the Sonauto Dakar bikes guard

I've also decided that seen as I've put so much effort into this bike to be a modernised, developed version of a Tenere 1VJ I'm going to go with a single carb conversion.
Can't decide between a TM38 or TM42...

Had a good day in the garage today.
Brother was over for the weekend so we cracked on. The sorting out of the wires through the bars for the front end was a key to the next step.
With the Motogadget Blue unit the switches on the front can do different things depending on the duration of push, but the great thing is that for the five buttons on the front you only need a single wire coming back as a signal.
We quickly sorted the input side:
left indicator, right indicator, high and low beam, horn, start switch.
We built some small looms to connect the output side of the Motogadget to the above, this needs the normal switched positive and an earth.
I'll improve on the looms and post some photos later, but everything works including the starter motor

Just had a letter for unpaid VAT off Parcelforce, so my carb and manifold should get delivered soon.
That will get this white 1VJ well ahead....

Absolute monster carb Mikuni 42mm.
Doesn't fit this bike as it has a 3TB motor in it and the cylinder head has a smaller diameter than the barrel so the one piece manifold doesn't sit right without me cutting back the cooling fins around the top of the rear part of the barrel.
However it can go on the second blue 1VJ.

I followed your other restorations and enjoyed each one of them but this one is by far my favourite! Damn... I love this color scheme of yours! I might borrow idea for my next 3aj project
I'm also very interested in that mono carb conversion. Let us know how it turns out, as I suppose I'm not the only one tired of fiddling with that bi-carb contraption from hell...
That and the fact that I didn't find much informations about what you gain out of the mikunioz kit...

I love the factory colours used in a different way, almost like Yamaha had revisited it and updated the colour way and graphic style but keeping the traditions. I've done it on a few other bikes.
