Poor starting

Hi all

My 43f is a pig to start from cold, full choke she usually fires 3rd kick, but immediately dies, 5-6 kicks later she fires and runs for a couple of seconds and then dies. Another 5-6 kicks she fires and runs fine. She starts fine from hot, The choke is obviously working because when she starts she's on a fast idle until I push the choke in.
Any ideas?

Clean the left carb good making sure the pilot circuit is completely clean and the choke is clear. There is a tube down in the float bowl with a small hole at the very bottom, make sure that hole is clear and not partially blocked. Check for good seals in the boots between carb and engine and that the idle isn't set too high. If the idle is high it'll suck more air and not get the fuel through the choke and pilot jet. Kicking over has the least amount of suction for drawing fuel due to slow revs, once started it's easier to get more gas if a passage or jet is partially blocked.
