Looking for some advice on which clutch friction plates to buy.
I have a 1vj with a 3aj engine (according to previous owner) but when I measured my clutch springs there all just over or under 41mm and not 32 to 34 as stated in the 3aj service manual.
Can any one advise me which model clutch friction plates I need and if these springs are still good.

my book (German BUCHELI) states the same clutch spring measurement than yours, for both models 1VJ and 3AJ: 32,6 mm to 34,6 mm length.
Same is true for official documentation on both models.

Older models had very similar clutch disks but different clutch springs. 41,2 mm new was true for SR500 and the old twinshock XT500.
So maybe somebody put one of these in. The longer springs may work OK though.
As far as I remember I had longer springs in my 3AJ engine as well. If so, the minimum length would be 40 mm.

There seems to be some different statement by KEDO, who sell the same (reinforced) springs for XT/SR500 and later models (XT600 1989-, XT600Z 1986-),
or for TT and early XT600 models (XT600Z -1985, XT600 -1989).

So KEDO says, late model Tenere needs the same springs than the old 500 cc engine has - which is not true for official documentation.

I checked exploded views, original by Yamaha. They use the same springs in many (!) models.

I have measured accurately now and they are all around 41.2mm so I'll use them again when the friction plates turn up on Tuesday at my local bike shop. Again, thanks Andy.
