Hi, could I ask some advice about chain rollers? I've recently acquired an '87 tenere which I intend to give a cosmetic uplift - mechanically it's sound. My question is with regard to the chain rollers I ordered some replacements for lower and upper which when they came were both exactly the same. When I went to fit them, the top roller had long gone but there was a tube welded to the inside of the frame where the roller goes and which stops the new roller from being fitted - it looks like it's meant to be there. Is there a different type of roller? Also, what does the top roller do? It looks too high up for the chain to be routed over the top of it. Any help would be appreciated.

The rollers on the Tenere are different top to bottom, if you go to the Kedo website and search for roller (under xt600z) its the 4 Piece one, bolt, washer, tube (which fits over the one you mentioned on the frame) and the roller which fits over that.

No, the top roller is there to limit the amount the chain can rise during suspension movement.

Bike just needs a bit of a spruce up and should look very good when done. It's an Italian import and I guess benefited from a kinder climate. I'll try to post some pictures when done.
