I have a 1VJ Tenere 1986 and my problem is that, whenever I try to kick-start my bike, it backfires, pops and spits flames when trying to find TDC. It starts fine with the starter motor.

As an experiment to try to find the problem, do not turn the ignition on until after you have positioned the piston at just after TDC (ideal kicking position).
Turn ign on and then kick.
Let us know what happens.

Bike must have exploded, he never posted again.

Hello. How did you manage to solve the problem?

He probably had to adjust his auto decompression. Was most likely not opening the valve on kick.
