Clutch slipping??

Hey fellow Tenere members - seeking some guidance/advice.

I did a 600km ride over Sat/Sun and noticed the back wheel slipping when going up hills - dirt, tarmac. I initially thought the tube was slipping but not the case. My second thought was clutch?

Any thoughts or advice before I crack the case and start investigating?

Cheers, Laurie

Easy way to check if clutch is slipping .... high gear, low speed and then WOT.

Could the tyre be slipping on the rim?

Hmm, WOT? Not sure what that means?

Definitely not tyre slip as no damage to the tyre in anyway.

WOT = wide open throttle.

Low revs, high gear and then twist the grip all the way round (WOT).

revs will rise without forward shove if clutch is on way out

Use one of the 'WHITE" permanent markers (if you have one) on your rim & tyre to see if its slipping on the rim.

If that is not worth the expense just make a mark on the rim (or a bit of electrical tape) near a letter on the tyre or something you would remember, just to see if its slipping on the rim.

EDIT: What oil are you using? semi synthetic i would hope?

Before you do anything, make sure there's free play on your clutch cable (is your clutch lever tight, or is there some free play?)

So have tried a few of the recommendations this weekend.

1. Low revs, high gear and then twist the grip all the way round (WOT).
- I put the bike in 3rd gear, cracked the throttle - bike lurched forward and revs also increased

2. Check the tyre on the rim and no movement at all

3. I use Castrol Power 1 10w-40 Part Synthetic Oil - should I be using something different?

4. I have also noticed that the 'play' in the clutch cable isnt much so have adjusted.

Well most people will say use semi synthetic on these bikes, if those plates have had mineral oil on them they will be contaminated (cannot be cleaned).

I would suggest buying a new clutch plates & use semi synth in future (don`t forget a new filter).

Part synthetic & semi synthetic are the same thing, Castrol power 1 is good stuff :thumb:
