Just bought a winter project - disaster!

Howdy,

I fancied a winter(s) project, so when I saw a 94 Tenere in an auction the other week I put my hand up a couple of times. The hammer price was £550 and I thought the bike didn't look too bad (it was someone else's project too, they're now deceased I think? Hence the auction)

Been giving it a jet wash today, and a closer inspection, and have found what looks like a project dead end. Here's a photo of the frame just behind the rear brake pedal:

That's a shocker, isn't it?
Even if that was someone's first ever weld - it's terrible!

I'm a bit annoyed (as I really fancied a Tenere), but also feel like I've got nothing to do this winter now.
What would anyone else do:
1. find another frame
2. break it for spares (engine is currently untested)

Cheers,

James.

I had a similar nasty suprise on an XT600E. A rusted out tube, near side from swing arm pivot up to the seat rail rusting out.
Salvaged it with the help of a racing sidecar builder here in Somerset. If you are anywhere near enough I could put you in touch.

Get another frame. They are out there. Even a shitty old 1vj/3aj with a good frame, but blown motor, and upgrade it with later engine etc? Or a TT frame. Screw originality, make it your spec.

Thanks chaps. Somerset is a bit far for me to take it for a repair.
There's a frame on ebay for £90, which is good..... In Germany, which is bad....

Good to hear there's a frame. I couldn't find one this side of the Atlantic and the ony one is the U.S. would heve been £700 ! including carriage. Hence the salvage job. Hope it works out.

There's a 3yf frame for £70 + £20 postage, UK, on eBay, V5 would need applying for.
