Trying to remove the crankcase on the kickstarter side of the engine and it seems to be stuck on the kickstarter axle. Is there something else I have to do outside of unscrewing all the bolts around the crank case?
I already removed the foot peg and break pedal.

So you’ve taken the 11 side case screws out, plus the three oil filter screws? Then it should prise off bit by bit. The kick shaft might be burred a little getting fought on the seal maybe.
Starter motor bracket gone with the screws too if you have one fitted. As J0epere said above, if you’re removing the cover completely you’ll disconnect the valve end of the decomp cable. Also try moving the position of the kick with the pedal on to see if it’s catching. (Maybe remove the spark plug to make it easier. )

I did this today - but it sounds as if you are doing this in the frame - why????? What are you trying to achieve?

There are a cap head screws on both sides of the engine.
with the engine out of the bike it is a so much easier on the bench.
There are 2 threaded holes after you drop the genereator/rotor and using 2 bars and a simple plate on top of the crank you can wind these in and seperate the halves.

I know he said crankcase but I think he’s just referring to the right clutch cover Charliext1vj. But after that, and pulling the flywheel, and outer gears, yeah I’d do the rest on the bench.

ah got you donnybach - so simply rubber hammer tap alround until gasket surface has broken free then shake loose. - left one held by the magnestism of the coil and a couple of dowels which makes it a little harder.

Don’t want to hijack the thread but are you repainting your engine at the mo Charlie? I’ll be rebuilding mine this winter for rings, cam chain and 5th gear so will repaint at the same time. Want to try to keep the edge of the fins bare.

Hey donnybach. Talking here of leaving the engine in the frame and you mentioned painting... I want to paint the outer cases only of my bike, do you know what is best paint to use and the method for best applying etc? Thanks!

I’d take anything you want to paint off for best results, and put it in the oven to cure. But for quick protection I’ve just sprayed mine with Vht in situ.
But if you can, remove as much loose paint as possible, use your high temp paint (personal choice there) and cook it. I did an awesome (for me) paint job on the engine, and followed the “ it’ll cure when the engine is warm” method. Bollox. Anything will scuff it, and petrol will totally remove it before it’s cured properly. The tip I was after was for leaving the fin edges clean. People have removed the paint after with a blade/ sand paper. Not done it myself yet.
I like a satin/ flat black engine, Simoniz i think. But others use gloss or Matt. Look at a load of photos of examples to make your personal choice bud.

The clutch cover has two fitting sleeves (or centering sleeves), this is where the cover is stuck most likely.



If you can source a helper, one can rock the cover and the other tap it gently from every side with a rubber mallet or a block of wood.
