1VJ RUNNING PROBLEMS

Well, my red and white 1VJ just keeps on giving – problems that is!

Symptoms – I rode it 22 miles to a car show and it was faultless.

Drove it home for the next 20 miles then it suddenly got hot and then it just stopped.

Tried starting and did not fire, waited a while, tried some choke and it fired up and got me home.

I am guessing carb rubbers again (3 sets in a year)? Or should I be thinking something else?

Any advice gratefully received!

When it does it again, try easystart to see if it's electrical or fuel.
Could be fuel supply getting hot past the tank to pump lines.
Could be carb not set up correctly.
Could be a fault in the stator, the windings for spark generation. Test the circuits next time it does it and still hot.
Had a similar problem years ago. Fill up at petrol station and wouldn't start until it had cooled. Changed stator and all good. Then reset the carb, after all the pissing about chasing fuel issues. Mainly the choke.

How is the spark plug? Does it show rich or lean?

If lean it could be a cause of the overheating..

My initial reaction would be an air leak somewhere.

Carb pipes, or seals on the carb maybe?

40 year old ignition coils can cut out when they get hot.

All electrical stuff available from electrex, and some new items have started appearing on eBay recently. Any carb stuff still from Yamaha genuine.
