Re: carb emulsion tube
The emulsion tube just unscrews from the carb body, it's the main jet holder.
They're about £25 in the UK, no idea what that is in Au$.
If it is your emulsion tube it'll be the one in the left hand carb, personally I'd get a 2nd opinion, spurts & farts tend to mean you're running lean.
EDIT: Pops & bangs from the exhaust mean too lean, spurts & farts from the airbox are a rich mixture.
I'd still get a 2nd opinion though or better still take the carb apart yourself & have a look for wear, leaks & check the settings
Rick
P.S.
P.P.S. A Mod probably will come along at some point & put this in the right section

Re: carb emulsion tube
The emulsion tube in conjunction with the needle performs the vital function of providing the metering and mixing of fuel and air from 1/4 throttle to 3/4 throttle. The emulsion tube just unscrews from the carb body, it's the main jet holder.
Movement and vibration cause the hard needle to wear the soft brass of the emulsion tube and the precise metering goes West.
Any bike with more than 50,000km will most likely need a new tube.
Do yourself a favour.......it'll run like a new one.

So I stopped worrying and lo and behold, things did get worse!

Re: carb emulsion tube
Carb is fixed with no need for the emulsion tube , the diafram that controls the idle and sits on the side of the left side carb was blocked [ brown residue from 27 yrs of build up ] the shut off causing the over rich idle and eratic behavior
