How is the spark plug? Does it show rich or lean?

If lean it could be a cause of the overheating..

My initial reaction would be an air leak somewhere.

Carb pipes, or seals on the carb maybe?

Agreed Donny. Just an OCD worry thing, the bike is likely perfectly happy.

I don’t think I could cope without a radiator, a tad too much of a risk for me even with modern oil.
I use the gauge to see if I’m warmed up ok before going faster.
Just peace of mind.

We don’t have the luxury of temperature monitoring on the old bikes but my bike being the 1VJ I have been keen to keep an eye on how she is running.
I have modified the airbox and changed to the under seat inlet, new oil pump is next on the list as well, but I was keen on keeping an eye on things ...

Great start on the diagnosis.

Fuel
Spark
Timing

Did you replace the fuel inlet valve and filter?

They have remade 152597 to fit my 1986 1VJ cage exactly.

If you have a 1986 1VJ with the larger cage then you need 152597
