Re: Is there a trick to setting the carb?

No stress! its at least great to have someone to chat to - even Moritz says the 3yf is quite a rare bike!

So the plan for the weekend will be to set the float height again, but I'll use the fuel level measurement - not the height of the floats like I did last time.

I'm not going to drill out the ...

Re: Is there a trick to setting the carb?

So I will add that the bike was running really nicely apart from hard starting when cold, coupled with lots of black smoke when it did start, and the backfiring which was really irritating - someone had also fitted a pipe from a Raptor 660 so it was really unpleasant.

All I did was set the valve ...

Re: Is there a trick to setting the carb?

Thought I would document what I have found so just so that others have something to work off!

I ordered a jet-kit from 6Sigma in the US - they have been super helpful so far.

My bike is mostly ridden at 1350m above sea level and has a free-flow tailpiece.

Replaced the standard 130 on the primary ...

Is there a trick to setting the carb?

My 3YF was generally running well but had developed a hard starting condition when cold and also an irritating backfire on the overrun. I hadn't done a proper once over since I bought it, so decided the time was right to do a bit of a refresh.

I ordered new inlet rubbers and an air cutoff switch ...

Re: choke lever position

So there we have it - complete with odd blue mudguard that I actually don't think looks too bad.

Not a restoration, just a few small key things done so that I can start to really enjoy it.

choke lever position

Hi All -

The previous owner of my bike had fitted a non-standard choke cable and drilled a hole in the dash surround. It seemed like a logical place to have it, but I did find it strange that Yamaha never built in a support for the plastic surround. Nevertheless I ordered a entire new choke cable ...

Re: Seat Damper - 3TB-24723-00

So it looks like that piece of the frame is exposed to flying rocks and sand from the back wheel and the previous owner fitted the piece of hose just to protect it. When I removed it I found a lot of paint missing and quite a bit of rust. Wire brush removed the rust and a new coat of paint covered ...

Seat Damper - 3TB-24723-00

Hi All -

Busy slowly neatening up the XTZ I just bought and under the seat on the frame you will see in the pic the previous owner(s) have put a piece of mining hose over the frame. I don't see anything on the parts pdf that fits over the frame, but I do see a damper that sits under the seat - p/n ...
