TT600 59X Brake light

Post by jagerb »

Hi guys!

I have a question about my recently acquired TT600 59x from 1989. The brake light isn't working, and i can't seem to figure out why. Does the brakelight run of the same stator coils as the head/taillight?(yellow/red stator wire) Or does is run of DC current from the battery like the horn and indicators?

The previous owner removed the horn, indicators, battery and ac -> dc rectifier.(i've tried connecting a 6v battery and still no current can be detected on the brakelight wires) And if it doesn't run on the same AC current as the head/taillight, can i just bypass the ac -> dc rectifier by plugging those 2 plugs together(red/white) to make it work? I disassembled and cleaned the brakelight switches and they are both in good working order.

Here's the wiring diagram, i hope someone can make sense of this :) :

Sorry about the italian, it's the only one i could find.

I hope someone can help me!
Cheers from Amsterdam

Ciao bella! By all appearances of that wiring diagram, if your dash light (number 24 “strumento luce”) is illuminated then your brake/tail light should work too. And it appears that the tail light runs off the stator as the “y/r” wire connects to the “L” wire with the lights in the on position, but I may be reading that wrong.

Check your ground on the tail light. If neither the tail light or the brake light work then it may be a grounding issue.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, the dash, headlight and the tail-running light are all working. But they are running on AC current from the red/yellow coil wires. By staring at the wiring diagram for many many times now, i think i've got things figured out. It looks like the white wires from the stator charge the battery via the rectifier(batteries don't like ac current :) ), and also provide current for the brake light, horn and indicators via the key switch. (although i don't have indicators and a horn) I guess they did this so your brakelight would still work if your engine died.

I hope this means i can bypass the rectifier, and totally get rid of the battery. This would (hopefully) make the brake light work on ac current. I'll see if i can make it work like this and i'll get back to you guys with the results!

Turns out you can indeed connect bypass the regulator(and remove the battery) by connecting the red and white wire! Brake light works perfectly now.
