Hi,
I have a 1vj onto which I intend to put on a 2kf head and barrel.
The head has worn guides. I can feel wobble. Some of that will be due to worn valve stems, but not all.
My question is, what's a tolerable amount of wear or is the manual specification the practical maximum?
I ask because I'm in The Philippines and parts and services are hard to acquire, so, if I can get away with new valves and retain the old guides I'd be happy.

Re: 2kf head recon.
The manual should have run out and clearance specs for all of these parts. The mechanic in me will garage a bike for as long as it takes for the right part to arrive to keep the bike in spec. Those limits were set for a good reason.
If you need a copy I have a xt600z service manual to share which is good for the e-start Teneres and some parts of the 3TB engine, not sure about the 2KF.

I always thought valve guides were softer material so as to not wear out the valves, and that it's usually the guides that are changed?
I've seen the engine builders I've used in the past make their own guides from scratch. It's not that difficult for an engineering shop to machine a bronze rod to size.

I'm sure they exist in Manila, somewhere, but not near me. My local shop cannot re cut seats. Yes, motorcycles everywhere. Very few are maintained. Fixed or scrapped when they break.
