Starter problem/Rotor

Hello! I'm new to this forum and I really hope I managed to find the proper place for this post. So long story short, bike wasn't starting at all, 1992 Yamaha xtz660 tenere of course. Figured might be faulty starter, changed that and the problem continued, the figured out that it was something more deeper, my best guess is one way bearing behind the rotor, starter to take it apart because bunch of noises were coming from that part of the bike when I try to start it. Anyhow, now I got a problem with rotor, can't get that darn thing off, any suggestions? Tried it with a makeshift tool and also ended up bending the one way gear right behind the freewheel (don't ask how) anyway, is a special tool necessary for this task that made exactly for these models or a universal tool does the work? Also is there anything particular that I need to know while assembling it back together once I change the parts? Thank you all and have a nice day!

I wouldn’t refit the one way starter if it’s damaged. They’re still available.
Takes a good quality puller and some pissing about for the rotors.
Was it cranking but not firing? Or not cranking quickly?
I’d go through all the obvious stuff. Connections too, connected and clean. All the way down to the plug. Check the specs on your eleccy parts etc as per the book.
Battery at full charge still in good shape with most of its cranking amps still available.
If it is turning, any shit fuel or dirt in the bowl/jets.

I cleaned the the electrical connections as best as I could, but it still wouldn't turn it, hooked a car battery and even that didn't help, sounds from the rotor case indicated that something might be wrong inside of there. Because once we pushed the bike to start it, everything worked just fine(no weird sounds, gears switched perfectly, no stalling or anything whatsoever). Carb probably needs some attention but in my mind that shouldn't be the problem, if what ever I'm going to do to it and it will not run afterwards, I'll turn to the carb right after.

It was barely cranking till it didn't at all, and solenoid just clicked even with the car battery

Does the starter turn over if you pull it out but still wired? Try with jump leads direct to battery too, and check solenoid works.

I'm pretty sure the solenoid was working, because whenever it would turn, the sounds from under the crank case cover were just frickin terrible, we tried to crank it with and without the solenoid and same think occured every time.

Hopefully as you suspected, it’ll be fine once you’ve rebuilt the starter clutch. Any joy removing the rotor yet? It is a bit of a task. One of those jobs you end up buying serious tools for and only need them the once .
I had to borrow a massive puller from work. No DIY small Halfords ones.

I was wondering if this is the same cheap shit that's from Ali express just sold in Italy for slightly more, but from what I understand, xtzs were quite popular there, well I haven't got around to order parts or the tool yet, but I'm about to do it tonight, I slightly budged the magnet, but made a proper fuck up whilst doing that.

I did mine a few years ago but can’t remember where it came from sorry. It still works fine though. 2017 and paid 55 US dollars.
