Hi all,
Does anyone/can anyone tell me the difference in the height/depth measurements for the following two types of sprocket carriers?
Part numbers:
- 5Y125366009 (stamped with 5Y1) for the XT600 34L/55W/43F/2KF models.
- 1VJ253660198 (stamped with 1VJ) for the XT600 1VJ/3TB/4PT models.
Even the measurements for just the first would be of help.
Context: At the moment I have a 2KF swingarm with a 1VJ/3TB/4PT carrier (i.e. the incorrect one), which means the correct a nearside 2KF rear wheel collar is too tight-a-fit - I'm interested to confirm that the correct, stock 34L/55W/43F/2KF carrier has less height/depth so that it would give me the room for it to do so, I hope.
Thanks,
Ed

Re: Sprocket carriers - 43F/2KF vs 1VJ/3TB/4PT
Interesting and your post is confusing for me! The 43F has aluminium swinging arm and drum brake. The 1VJ is steel swinging arm and drum brake. The 2KF and 3TB and 4PT has Steel swinging arm with Disk brake but the 2KF is only kick start which alters chain position?. Where abouts are you based? I would have to work out which bits to measure but I would expect its a spacer question not hub?

Re: Sprocket carriers - 43F/2KF vs 1VJ/3TB/4PT
Thanks.
Yeah so ignore what wider bike its on here (trust me...its complex and won't help here!) and just focus on which swingarm is correctly paired with which sprocket carrier, based on the offcial Yamaha schmatics and part numbers:
- Carrier part no. 5Y125366009 (stamped with 5Y1) for the 34L/55W/43F/2KF swingarms.
- Carrier part no. 1VJ253660198 (stamped with 1VJ) for the 1VJ/3TB/4PT swingarms.
As you can see, whether the set up is disc or drum brake does not determine which sprocket carrier, because the early model carriers were used for the earlier 2KF disc brake swingarms, not the later ones. This confusion (once again, without going to the detail of explaining!) is probably how I've ended up with the wrong carrier.
Previously I've ended up with the wrong nearside spacer in order to make the officially wrong carrier (1VJ253660198) fit. With the correct nearside spacer and the incorrect carrier that I currently have, that means the whole set up is too tight-a-fit....which tells me that the correct carrier (5Y125366009) is probably (hopefully!) shallower than the incorrect one. I just want to check that theory through the measurements.
Hope that makes sense.
Thanks in advance for any help.

As thought the driver is electric start engine is wider
The early engine has 15mm stud. Where as later engines have additional 10mm mounting then 15mm stud. I have both available.

Re: Sprocket carriers - 43F/2KF vs 1VJ/3TB/4PT
Interesting, thanks Charlie.
What I didn't mention was that I'm running a 34L with a 4PT motor and a 2KF swingarm. I've previously run it fine with the 34L swingarm instead, but since having it converted to the 2KF swingarm, invertedly paired with the 1VJ stamped sprocket carrier, the chain line runs far too close to the frame.
With the correct 2KF/5Y1 sprocket carrier, which is the same as that used for the 34L, this will bring it back away from it, as I'd hoped. This makes sense, because the 2KF alignment using the right swingarm, rear wheel and carrier combo should be the same as the 34L.
I think the confusion occurs because the 3TB/4PT rear wheel hub is stamped 2KF (as this part was carried over to those later models), so its easy to assume that whatever sprocket carrier comes with that hub is for the 2KF model, when it's not.
Thanks for sharing - unfortunately I've already ordered a 5Y1 carrier, otherwise I'd offer to buy off you.

Re: Sprocket carriers - 43F/2KF vs 1VJ/3TB/4PT
It would have been easier to start with that
I dont think it will solve your problem - the later carrier is needed as the engine is wider and moves the front sprocket over too. to use the narrow carrier you would have to shift the engine over by 10mm too? not sure if that is possible.
I have seen the early alloy swinging arm used for which I also have a spare! But I expect this is also difficult.
good luck.

Re: Sprocket carriers - 43F/2KF vs 1VJ/3TB/4PT
Thanks Charlie - there's a number of posts on Tenere.co.uk and HUBB that explain how to put a 4PT engine in a 34L frame, which explain the changes that need to be made.
In addition, I've previously (successfully) run this set up, albeit with a 34L swingarm; given the dimensions of the 2KF swingarm as a direct swap-in, I can't see any reason why (with the correct sprocket carrier) it shouldn't also work.
