XT600 1987 1VJ twin air filters. Heads up.

Post by Barryn »

Hello

Just to note after itchy boots mentioned her issues with her air filter I checked mine and I agree they don’t fit correctly potentially allowing dirt into your air box and engine. My filter is the 152598

I was told to try 152599 but that’s actually worse.

The darker foam area should be flat but the filter seems to be too small causing significant curving to the filter face.

I have contacted TwinAir and I will be sending them my filter frame.

They intended to make new filters once they have received it.

The 3aj airfliter cage is shorter than the 1vj because of the snorkel.
When you read the spec of it it says 87 to 89 which implies 3AJ is my guess.

So it probably doesnt fit the 1VJ as its taller so it begs the question where to get the 1VJ or perhaps crush the frame a bit to make it fit ? :hulk:

One of my 1VJ has the full 3AJ conversion where as the other I have modified the air box to remove the engine hot air but still have to work out the airfilter. Might go to my local motorcross shop to see what they have and even make a basic frame up - might even be possible to have a flat filter given the size of the snorkel?

I have sent my 1VJ air filter frame to TwinAir as they have offered to use it as a template and make some proper fitting filters.

I will update you all when I have a result.

Well after a few weeks back and forth to the Nederland’s.
Twin air have been brilliant..

They took my mesh cage and have re manufactured the filter and there is a new part code available.

Part number 152597

They fit far far better and will now seal at the air box properly.

I had the same problem with my twin air filter for my 1vj.
Didnt know the 3aj filter frame was slightly different.
Many thanks for helping out with this.

Quick question.
Is there a stockist in the UK?
I've Googled and Ebay'd and can't find that part number for sale in UK...
