1VJ wheels offset

Post by IvanBubu »

Hello,

I am rebuilding the wheels of my 1VJ, and I can't find a definitive answer to whether there is an offset on the front or rear wheels ?
I can't take measure as my wheels are dissasembled now.
So far the information I have is that the front is centered (no offset) and the rear should have a small 4-6 mm offset to the right (brake drum side).

Can anyone confirm this ?

Thanks !

There's no reference in the manual to being offset. Doesn't go into wheel rebuilds. Some cagey pictures but no measurements.

I've just been researching spokes and wheel building as I'm about to do my first wheel rebuild, So, sorry if this reply is a bit late to the party.

Spokes are the same length both sides. Inner and outer are different shapes and are listed as different lengths although they're the same length but the angle at the bottom gives them a different measurement.

Offset is achieved by the diameter of the spoke fixing flange on each side of the hub being different.

Think of it as the hub being offset to the right to allow room for the cush and sprocket with the rim central in the swingarm.

If you build the wheels and keep everything equal re spoke length and tension, it should all end up in the right place like magic.

So far the above is theory, I Ihaven't even bought the spokes yet, make of it what you will.

I did rebuild a wheel a very long time ago, in a campsite, from new spokes that someone else happened to have. It worked out well in the end, I've no idea how, but it's not rocket science.
