Sorry for the dumb question but I don't want to do any damage.
Current rebuild state of the bike is crankcases in frame. Head and barrel off. Drive side gears not yet installed.
My question is how do I safely restrain the engine from turning while applying 120nm torque to the alternator bolt and then crank pinion, clutch basket nut, etc. Old Brit bikes I used to have I just put a bar through the gudgeon pin hole and rested it on blocks on the crankcase mouth. I suspect the new rod and big end wouldn't like that!
I've read about jamming pennies or rags in the primary drive or putting it in top and standing on the brake. Can these methods take 120nm at the crank and not cause clutch slip ir damage?
I don't have Yamaha tools or a strap wrench. When I had the cutch off a while ago i locked the primary drive by inserting a spare crank pinion between the clutch gear and crank pinion. The internet tells me this was a bad idea.
How do i safely lock the engine to apply hugh torque to the crankshaft and other nuts.
