So some updates.
Got the powder coat back
I've got the parts delivered from Fowlers Yamaha which has allowed me to get some stuff finished.
The Arrow exhaust came and got dropped off at Camcoat.

Top seals to finish off the forks.


Foot rests and rear brake lever with fresh powder coat, new Yamaha springs, titanium bolts and stainless clevis pins.
With Bosley 1980 wide foot pegs


Cleaned the clocks and mounts, managed to source some new Yamaha dampers and stainless bolts.


On a more negative note, I was hoping to use the old rims and have them ceramic coated, unfortunately not. I've ordered some black Excels and the hubs and associated back plates and brake plate have been dropped off for powder coat.

The front ends built now. I need to spray the master cylinder, attach the brake line and bleed the caliper.
The frame needs the ID plate removing, the headstock decals heating to remove and the headstock bearing shells knocking out before it goes for powder, hopefully this coming weekend.
Still need to get the fasteners and other stuff replated.
I need to finish knocking bearings and bushes out of the swing arm and drill out the broken fastener that attaches the front of the chain guard, then it can go for powder....

Got the Arrow Paris Dakar back from being ceramic coated at Camcoat Warrington.


Pulled hundreds of old rusty staples out and cleaned up the seat base. It will go to Viking seats and end up with the huge Gauloises on it.

Finally I forgot to show this. Its the rear carrier I had it finished in the crackle powder coat as the originally was pock marked with rust. Really happy how it came out, as the guy at the powder coaters said, it covers a multitude of sins.

It's the weekend so I need to get some progress on this 1VJ
Got the bushes and needle roller bearing out of the linkage so it can go for powder coat. Also ordered the bushes, end caps and some bolts from Fowlers to replace the pieces that are too far gone, the rear end suspension parts are crazy money for what they are £12 for one end cap. I'll source the needle roller bearings for the swing arm and this linkage from a bearing supplier.


Swing arm has the bearings and bushes out with a note of where the spacing washers went. Also had a struggle with the sharks fin bolts that had been worn away by the chain.


Had the new GPR exhaust delivered which is a lovely thing. This will get ceramic coated to match the exhaust.

Regarding the linkage, I was also blown away on how expensive it would be to replace all the bushings, upwards of 200EUR if I remember correctly. I Purchased another linkage set and used the best bits from both, reducing the up-down play significantly.
Where did you find the needle bearings? I was searching from them as well, but only found the ones which had the needles in cages and therefore more far apart. The play with these was actually worse than with the original ones.

Ceramic coated Exhaust looks real good, how much did it cost to get the end can coated? I think I must do the same for my Sebring exhaust. I had it powder coated with Heat proof paint, but this will not last too long, the paint on the pipe is already cracking pretty bad.

All in all, great to see things moving along so fast!

I'm fairly sure the exhaust was £95 to ceramic coat, I'll drop the headers off this week, and let you know.
I think the invoice from Fowlers for the genuine Yamaha stuff for the swing arm and linkage was £140 and I didn't need to replace everything. The bearings will be from a factor.
The needle bearing I removed from the linkage was a IKO YT1725 just bought one at £6.25.

Got some powder coat back this evening. In keeping with my normal procedure of building sub assemblies, which get bigger and bigger until the rebuilt bike emerges.
So here is the refinished battery box.

Did you mount that GPR header already an a bike? Curious to see how high it sits. I have a stainless header on my 3AJ but it’s quite close to the fuel petcock.

I'll get a photo up of a GPR header on one of my other 1VJs. It's quite low, certainly plenty of space for petcock.
