I've finished my last blue 1VJ detailed here under Dan's blue 1VJ. She's now gone to my brother to put some miles on her and makes sure she's 100%. He is also supposed to be fitting a Zeeltronic programable CDI to it as well, more on that on the original resto write up.
I was browsing eBay before the Christmas break and saw a blue 1VJ near work. It was on for a very optimistic price and I bid £1000 less than asking. Much to my surprise he answered immediately back saying he'd sell it for my offer. So I arranged to meet up after work the following day to have a look at it and pay a deposit if it was anything like.
What I saw was a rather careworn but very original matching numbers original UK registered 1VJ.
The following issues were immediately obvious:
Fuel tank had the usual dents in the lowers on both sides and needed sorting and painting.
The silencer had been designed for something else and had been crudely made to fit.
It had a nice aftermarket manifold.
It had the correct genuine front mudguard and lip.
Very manky rear brake and gear levers.
A seat that was the right shape but had a horrible seat cover on it.
An awful faded set of blue fork gaitors.
It had genuine side panels and headlight mask.
Good Pirelli tyres but rusty hand painted spokes but good original gold alloy rims.
It started on the button, but was a little noisy on the top end.
So all in all a good start for a project, so I paid a deposit and arranged to pick it up in the week before Christmas.
Some images of how it came to me.
