Attempting to make 1 ignition switch out of several




Anyone wanting to fit the later r/h handlebar switch to their Tenere... this is how you wire them, although the wires are the same colours, you don't join them colour for colour as the switches are different... the wiring on the left shows the new switch, one of the red/white wires has to be joined to the blue/white then connected to the blue/white on the existing bike wiring.

Ah! I didn't know there were race cutouts in the frame. That makes me feel like a fool. I tried using a drift but I never felt the depressions and ended up having to weld a cross brace over the race and hammering it out from above.

You can see the cutout on this pic with the race still in...

Not sure if you remember my troubles with my headset bearing race while in Mexico and how i ended up welding a cross brace to pound it out? Well due to neglect and time i needed to replace the bearings again, but i figured with your tip about the cutouts in the frame pounding out the old race would be a breeze this time.

I don't think this frame came with cutouts!




What the hell? My Tenere had the cutouts but not this 43F? Am I missing anything?

The only way to get that out is to cut a slot with a carbide burr & then belt it with a chisel to collapse the race, its the same way my late farther would use to remove a valve seats (and he did thousands like this)

If you run a small bead of weld from a mig around the bearing face the outer shrinks and falls out.

Same if you heat one spot to cherry red with a welding torch, let it cool and the race will just fall out... it's how I used to do truck hub bearings...

Hi Geoff, l am sending stuff to the powder coaters my list includes; wheel rims - gold, rear rack, and wheel hubs. Anything else that would be better powder coated? satin black for wheel hubs and rack? did you paint the oil tank or pc it? cheers

I powder coat everything... frame, wheels, footpegs & brackets, oil tank, shock spring.... I've even gone as far as the engine sidecovers & the barrel on a couple of my bikes...

I agree with Geoff you can't really go wrong with powder coat, hard wearing, looks the part when correctly applied and much cheaper than a wet finish

Back in December 2014 when I picked up the bodywork for my 1VJ & Tenere 4 from the guy who painted them (in Wales)... I dropped off a full set of bodywork for Tenere 5 (TT Tenere) & mistakenly told the guy there was no rush as I had Ten 4 and the 1 VJ to finish... so a good while later when Tenere 5 was done the bodywork wasn't finished... actually wasn't started yet so I nicked the bodywork off Ten 1 and used that... I then had a set of bodywork painted locally to fit back on Ten 1...

Wasn't really a problem as I knew I could use the bodywork in Wales for Tenere 6... but, it's still not fucking finished, or started... lots of reasons why, redundancies, garages falling down, firms going bust and latterly covid 19 and lockdown...

Had lots of discussions with the guy who's doing it, and hopefully it'll be started next week... if not I'm gonna have to go get it and get someone else to do it... it's been a real pain in the arse....

It's been finished for 2 fucking years almost....

So that's where I'm at with Tenere 6, just in case anyone is wondering...
