apk TT600 3AJ00 Rebuild

Post by APK »

Hi Guys

I've been looking through your forum and there are some very good looking bikes!

I bought a TT600 bike a while ago with the idea of restoring it to its former beauty but it seems that i will be needing a little help and advice as I go along. Hope i can find it here.

The bike is a TT600 89 model as far as i can figure out. The trick is that the engine comes from a newer model xt and the guy from our local bike shop says it is a 93 model. It has electric start which i like but I'm finding it very difficult to get the correct cdi or tci?? unit. The other information I would like to find is a wiring diagram for the newer engine so i can convert the bike form 6v to 12v to be compatible with the newer engine.

I have redone the engine, new rings, valves seated, big end and small ends, gaskets etc but now on to the electronics and I'm getting a little stuck...

I got a little tired of waiting for the unit i ordered from Belgium so we wired up a small CDI unit from a model plane with the pickup and ran the engine to test it and it worked!! Engine ran beautifully..

I'll be posting some pics as a go along.

This is the CDI Unit that arrived from Belgium but as I said, need the wiring diagram to proceed.

Hi there :nannawave:

Im guessing its a 3TB motor (XT600E) should be stamped on the right hand engine casing (behind the exhaust) :sherlock:

In your second picture that looks like a TCI (older XT600`s used CDI) TCi means "Transistor Controlled Ignition" rather than CDI "Capacitor Discharge Ignition"

Here is the wiring diagram for 600E or 3TB

Hey Mezo?
Thanks for the quick reply. Could you please post the wiring diagram for the 3AJ model as well? It seems as if the wiring diagram does not match what I see on the stator.

Thanks

Well that’s why i was asking to get the number off the engine (where i said) so i can identify your motor, its silver so im thinking its 3TB not 3AJ.

Wiring diagram for 3AJ is in hot links, under manuals, then under Mezo.

Ha ha this looks familiar, welcome to the horror i mean yamaha adventure bikes.
The wiring might be done in 2 ways, 1 use all the wiring harness from the donor engine bit tricky, 2
blend the tt harness into the engine which might be easier to convert 12v, which is just the bulbs swapped for 12v and voltage regulator and rectifier swap.
Might have to use the xt headlight though, tci stuff i'm in the dark, sorry. good luck

When Geoff has done a 3TB engine swap (if that is what the engine is) he uses the entire 3TB loom as well, including ignition switch.

I wonder if the TT stator has been re-fitted? which needs the TT flywheel as well.

Do you have a picture of the stator? this bike could already be a bit of a mix & match.

This is a 3TB stator (12V)

This is a TT600 stator (6V)

Hey guys

Thanks for the help so far.

I've got some photos of the stator unit as well as an engine number taken if the casing: 3UW-014480

OK from reading the MODEL CODES its a 94 XT600E 3TB :rtfi:

And 3TB engines use TCI ignition`s, they swapped from CDI to TCI in 1990 (the 3TB engine/XT600E).

And your stator is 3TB from looking at the pics.
