3AJ regulator blown or not

Post by xtjoe »

We connected the wires wrong way around on regulator on my 3AJ-(3 white wires from generator in and 1 red out to battery) found no charge-checked - swapped wires to correct position-still no charge coming out. Is the regulator blown so to speak

If you only got the 3 white wires mixed up, no problem as this is just 3 phase AC power from the stator, no real order. If you connected a stator output (white wire) to the red wire output, possible damage. With engine running, connect AC voltmeter set for 20 volts or so and measure ac voltage across the white wires one pair at a time to see if the voltage is about equal on each phase. If so and no charge verify battery is good. A very dead and or old battery will not allow the regulator to work correctly. I cannot recommend a replacement as my originals are working and I've never had to address this.
