Future New Canadian 34L/55W Owner ?

Post by mhouck »

Hi all

I've been following this form for a few years now and I have decided it's time to take the plunge and seriously start the process of sourcing a 34L or 55W and having her shipped to Canada.
I'm currently 3/4 (?) of the way through an '88 Africa Twin XRV650 restoration and have decided she will need a stablemate.... (alongside my 1100 GS)
Truth be told, I favour the Tenere over the Africa Twin, but was lucky enough to have the AT come available without the hassle of shipping. (it had been imported to Canada by a Cdn. who had been teaching abroad)
There is just something about the classic Tenere that grabs ahold of me - probably as I am a big fan of the Dakar. (followed a friend over to Lisbon in '08 who was to compete, but that is a different story....)

So, what am I looking for? Well for starters, a bike that is running and is for the most part complete. The AT I acquired was in some serious need of repair and parts. It was a bit of a "Frankenbike", and I have spent a fortune on sourcing parts and shipping costs...

I love turning old into new and can do most of the work myself, with of course help from this amazing forum full of experienced Tenere fanatics. :)

At present, there does not seem to be a lot of 55W's or 34L's in the classifieds. SA seems to have some nice ones that would be worthy. I have a friend in the UK that would be willing to help my sleuthing as well, so that would probably be my first choice.

Looking forward to any advice and or help, as I begin my endeavour...

Not sure if there are any Tenere 600's this side of the pond. A few rare 750's perhaps.

Cheers & Thanks in advance !

Murray

PS the photo of the AT is the day I brought her home...

PPS you can see I like big tanks... LOL

:welcome2:
I have an rd07 also, but have never "gelled" with it, for whatever reason , I don't know why exactly, but do favour the tenere, but be careful. They are addictive.

Very tidy!

Where did you find it?
"Don't worry," he said, "things could be worse ........."
So I stopped worrying and lo and behold, things did get worse!

She's from the UK.
It's original and not restored. Garage kept and well maintained.

Well I picked her up at the airport and have her home....
AND she's definitely seen some restoration to her, BUT I am still very happy with her!

Now to sort out all that she needs....
