Starter solenoid rubber holder and hello!!

Hi Member here!
I've been lucky to pick up a 2002 600 e with UNDER 4000mlies.
I've changed oil and filter, new front tyre (side walls perished) and fitted a gpr end can as original had rotted at the join from the header. All was going well until coming home from work today in terrentail rain. After a run up to 65 mph pull up at a junction as I pull away engine splutters and dies on busy duel carrage way. After a 5 minute push try to start it and seems OK. Obviously water is getting in somewhere what's the best tips for waterproofing the electrics as I have bought the bike as my winter/wet weather ride.
I removed the seat and took battery out to have a look and noticed the starter solenoid was hanging in thin air. The rubber holder has perished and broke. I've searched the net but can't find a replacement, only seem to find new solenoids in the holder not separate holders. Any ideas? Should be able to bodge up something using bits of inner tube and cable ties but would prefer the proper part or equivalent.
Apart from this issue am enjoying having a single back in my life. I'm enjoying the winter rides and saving my other steed for the spring .

Couldn't find that rubber holder? go to your Yammy dealer for that one.

Dielectric grease is the stuff for electrics/connections in winter time.

Hi there...Ive had a lot of trouble with my XT cutting out when crossing creeks & rivers here in oz. The spark plug on the XT is in a very vulnerable position when it comes to wet conditions. Water from the front wheel gets thrown up into the plug area and can fill the area around the plug. Check the condition of your spark plug cap. The rubber seal needs to be a very firm fit around the plug. This will stop water getting into plug cap. Water in the plug cap means your zap will bypass the plug electrode and you will be going no where!

Yamaha parts listing looks like solenoid holder isnt sold separately, so will need to buy whole solenoid assembly to get the holder!

Shove dielectric grease in the sparkplug cap also , that'll keep water out of there as well . Behind the headlight there is plenty of ignition and safety circuit connections ,as well as the start/stop switch on the right bar, fill them all with the dielectric grease .

I have looked at yamaha parts but as mentioned don't think they sell the holder separately.
So I have a cunning plan which involves a lego brick some gorilla glue a piece of inner tube a jubilee clip and some cable ties. If it works I'll post some pics if not I'll keep my mouth shut

Over here in UK riding the roads in the pissing rain is like riding through one long 10 mile creek. Not that I'm jealous of the wide open spaces miles of out back to ride in and constant sun you get you lucky blighter dzl

Have made a bracket using the heel from one of the wife's old shoes! It made from a hard nylon and with a piece of old tractor inner tube and some cable ties I now have a fitted solenoid. Time will tell if it works.
I've put some pics up and some of my other bikes the fazer is for sale by the way.
