As above, does the tensioner of the later 90's bikes fit the earlier 80's ones?
Specifically, using the 3TB-12210-00 (available new) tensioner instead of the 34K-12210-00 (not available)
Part number and Fowlers say they're different, but they look identical on the parts drawing.

How much are they? I can’t see them being different. Change costs money. Most of the old parts get newer part numbers as the models unfold. Can you get it on sale or return and compare them at the shop or is it a case of “ you order you pay?

They are identical other than their colour. The 34K version is painted black on the external portion of the housing. Thats all it takes for it to have a different part number.

You can check with the part number. Color has its own two digit code there.
Also you can check for parts that were succeeded by newer parts.
