What piston to use? xt 600 1VJ

Post by ruudeiman »

Hello!

I am rebuilding my 1vj tenere motor and wondering what piston to use in the build. I will use a 3AJ head and cylinder. The available options are Wössner, TKRJ, Prox and Namura. I would love to keep in in stock compression (reliability over power).

Also I will be putting a new conrod in aswell. Is it possible to put a 3TB conrod (without washers) to a 1VJ crank (with washers)?

Thanks in advance!

Why not buy a used stock Yamaha piston? Plenty of options on ebay. Interchangeable with pretty much every 600 from 1983 to 88.

Ive just rebuilt my 1988 3aj engine, including a rebore, and was supplied with a TKRJ piston. Seems very close to the original, standard compression. I think theyre made in Japan.

The bike has only done 100 miles since rebuild, so cant comment on longevity, but the engine hasnt blown up yet.
