There is something about this particular photograph that I find really appealing, is it the prone position in which it lays out all the potential, whilst showing off the whole engine in the frame without any distractions.

Boy, that is a damn fine restoration your doing there.

Well guys more time has ticked by and I have been stealing a few hours here and there.
Spent a lot of time on the loom. You may recall the loom that came with the bike was partially eaten by a dog including swallowing the plugs from the headlight end. Mezo lent me a std loom to coy and I also picked a ratty one up from Germany. I ended fixing and re-taping the German loom and got all electrics going!!
Fitted front brake (haven't been able to bleed it properly yet. If I clamp the hose I get a 'hard' lever , so there is still air in the caliper!! I have read everything on the forum so I will be able to do it........ but couldn't wait to try the motor!!!!!
Yes first kick she fired into life Not running fantastically a little rough but very satisfying.
This is supposed to be a video of the first few seconds of the "new life"











Anyway I had oil pressure as I hadnt refitted the bleed screw and the oil pissed everywhere. I will now tidy everything up and start work on the tank and plastics .

Haaa, that`s not bad considering it was sat in a shed alongside Danny`s Transalp for a few years.

I think Danny`s TA coughed & spluttered in to life the same way saying "where the fuck have you been? my battery was flat as a witches tit"

Well team, a progress report. After getting it started it was not running well. backfiring and aslo blowing back throught he carbie????????? Had I stuffed up the timing? or was the CDI faulty? or perhaps a carbie problem?
With Actionman man over for a 'few drinks" we rechecked the timing thinkiing it could be 1 tooth out, but all seemed good. Next day I fitted another CDI but still very bad running and also seeming to run very hot. Perhaps lean ??? The boss wants me to put the barbie on for dinner so will come back to this story later with photos

Dinner is finished. I have fitted a seat and tank I had from that old XT doppleganger.




Decided I had to pull the carbie off and go though it again, I must have missed something all those months ago when I rebuilt it. You may remember it was very gummed up with sticky old fuel.
I also grabbed my box of carbies as I may fit another one as a test/check



These are all a bit sus and after looking through them none were good enough to put on, so I pulled apart the 34l carbie. I found the following:
Small hole in rubber tranfer pipe between secondary inlet and enriching valve(replaced)
O ring stuffed(like licorrice) from top of bowl
Small jeyt up in a hole beside main jet was fully blocked with 'gum" (cleaned)
Re-checked float level and refitted the carbie.

Staeted first kick and running sweet !!!!!!! The carbie was deffinatly causing the lean hot running





The bad news however was the carport was staring to fill blue smoke I am burning oil!!!

Thought this may be overfilled with oil so I syphoned out about 400ml and then took it for a ride around the suburbs! I must say it rides realy well. Clutch and gearbox are great (neutral selects perfectly). Very smooth and quiet , no rattles plenty of power could not fault it ----except, I was leaving a bit of smoke behind me!!!
When I got back I checked the oil level and seemed correct. The exhaust was showing black oily residue




Have I not done the valve stem seals correctly?? Do I have an oil ring problem. Have to think on this one

Did a bit more work on cosmetics and fitted the head light mounts with a "reinforcing " as these tabs always seem to breakoff. Used a large steel washer "super glued to the back of the mount around the rubber and ground it to the profile of the shroud.








Also got a bit of a problem with the seat--- its gaping where it should meet the tank!




So all in all a productive few days work----however the smoke is a worry, I dont realy want to have to open up the motor again.Any ideas?

Not surprised if some of that shit from that tank had gone in.

This seat thing is real common, apparently ts the foams age (30 yrs now) & the new cover`s tautness that's making the seat fold in on itelf.
Kedo have new foam coming out soon & Dave Lambeth had mention he was thinking or doing along them lines, i think Just Dan got his fixed?
I had said on older threads if the seat base plastic that gone soft over the years, mine might do the same thing yet.
